Connecting With Millennials Pt 2 of 2

Identifying and Understanding Millennials

In part one of Connecting With Millennials, we found the next consumers coming of age in the marketplace are called millennials. This unique and large group of 18-34 year olds, estimated to be 80 million strong, are curious and forward thinking, with a need for instant gratification and a love for personalization and customization. We realize the power of this demographic, in that more than 80 percent of millennials use their smart phones while shopping to access reviews, ratings and to check price information from the palm of their hand.

How To Engage Millennials

To better position your interaction with millennials consider some of the following:

  • Responsive design: web design that provides an optimal viewing experience by adjusting content across a wide range of devices
  • Short message campaigns that allow almost instant interaction
  • Business applications that provide promotional content based on users location

More specific ideas for engaging millennials could include:

  • Create contests that reward engagement such as gift cards for the
  • 50th or 100th like
  • Share informal and friendly videos that promote your brand
  • Ask rhetorical questions
  • Respond to comments and questions within 24 hours
  • Encourage product and service rewards

Millennials are hungry for new ways to keep in touch and share what’s important to them. Your future success may hinge on your ability to connect with them by understanding and realizing their needs.
