For newly graduating dentist’s, below are some things to consider before going out on your own.
Work for someone else first.
Why? You get paid to hone your skills and speed while seeing what the business side of dentistry looks like.
Take the time to list the pros and cons of what you see and experience and how it could apply to your office, such as:
- How the office is ran
- How the office is set up
- How the ops are set up and how well they function
- Design features – colors and finishes
- Being a business owner
- How patients are treated
And note anything else of interest and value during your tenure.
Prior to possibly going out on your own, one important question must be answered first…
Am I made for owning my own dental practice? BE HONEST! If more dentists were honest about this one question, they could save themselves a lifetime of heartache while saving lots of money at the same time.
If the answer is no…STOP, and celebrate that you understood who you are and that you enjoy working for someone else and the freedom it provides you!
If the answer is yes…it’s time to start assembling your team and planning the dream of your future.
